Women in Engineering Accelerator 2024

The Women in Engineering Accelerator, introduced by Akama Fund in honour of International Women’s Day and coinciding with the generous spirit of Ramadan, is a groundbreaking scholarship opportunity aimed at women of Middle Eastern heritage pursuing studies in Computer Science or Engineering. 

Sponsored by Beebolt, a Dubai-based supply chain platform, the fund symbolizes a commitment to progress. It celebrates the resilience and innovation of women while providing tangible support for their aspirations. Accelerator Benefits

  • Students can receive cash awards up to £1000.
  • High tech laptops will be made available 
  • All eligible applicants will receive access to mentorship programs, personal development workshops and networking opportunities.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Accelerator, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently studying in the UK in an undergraduate or postgraduate program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology (with a focus on software development or systems engineering), Data Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineering, Robotics Engineering related fields.
  • From a Middle Eastern heritage or background 
  • Have a household income below £50,000 evidenced by a means-tested assessment as part of your application for a student loan.
  • Join the Akama Fund waitlist if you are not eligible for any of the awards.

 

Students may apply for all awards they are eligible for and reapply in consequent years.

Application Process

  • Complete the short online application by April 20th, 2024.
  • All eligible applicants will be contacted.
  • Shortlisted candidates for the financial award will be notified by end of April 2024 and invited to a brief interview process.
